Steps to make Za’atar palmiers:
- Roll your puff pastry on a floured surface
- Mix za’atar and olive oil till the you a sticky spreadable consistency
- Spread the mix all over your rectangular shaped pastry. Press the mix firmly down
- Roll the 2 longer edges of the pastry inwards. Where the 2 rolls meet in the middle, brush the top with the egg. Chill for 30 minutes in the fridge
- Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius and line a baking tray with grease proof paper. When the pastry is ready, take it out of the fridge and using a sharp knife or pastry cutter and cut it into 1cm slices. Lay the palmiers flat on the baking sheet and brush them with egg. Bake for 15 minutes or until lightly golden and puffed. Leave the palmiers to cool on the baking sheet
Preparation Stir together all ingredients in a small bowl. Za'atar is a Middle Eastern spice mixture used on many types of meat and even vegetables. Za'atar is the condiment king of Middle Eastern cuisine and there are very few savory dishes that could not be. Za'atar seasoning is fragrant and tangy with just a hint of nuttiness. You can find za'atar in Middle Eastern groceries, at many natural food stores, or online at places like Penzeys or The Spice House.
